Somatic Healing

Reconnect with Your Body, Reclaim Your Well-Being
Somatic bodywork is a therapeutic approach that integrates body awareness and physical touch to address the connection between the body and mind. Rooted in the understanding that the body holds memories, emotions, and trauma, somatic bodywork aims to release tension and patterns stored in the physical form. Practitioners use techniques such as gentle touch, guided movement, breathwork, and mindfulness to help clients become more attuned to bodily sensations and cultivate a deeper awareness of their inner experience. This process encourages the release of stress, trauma, and emotional blockages, fostering a sense of balance, empowerment, and self-healing. Somatic bodywork is particularly effective for those seeking to reconnect with their body and process unresolved emotional experiences in a safe, supportive environment.

FAQs
-
Somatic healing is a body-centered approach to emotional and psychological healing. It recognizes that trauma, stress, and emotional pain are often stored in the body—not just the mind—and focuses on using body awareness, breath, movement, and sensation to support healing and release.
-
While traditional talk therapy focuses primarily on thoughts and emotions through conversation, somatic healing invites the body into the process. It may involve less talking and more noticing—tuning into physical sensations, tension patterns, breath, posture, and movement to access deeper layers of healing that the conscious mind may not reach.
-
Somatic healing can support a wide range of challenges, including:
Trauma and PTSD
Anxiety and stress
Chronic pain or tension
Emotional regulation
Disconnection from (or feeling unsafe within) the body
Burnout or nervous system dysregulation
It can also be helpful for personal growth, embodiment, and deepening self-awareness.
-
While every client is has different needs and preferences, most sessions are a combination of the following:
Grounding and breathwork
Gentle body awareness exercises
Guided exploration of sensations, emotions, or memories
Movement, touch (if appropriate), or visualization
The pace is slow and safe, with the client always in control of what is explored or not.
-
Yes. Somatic practices are supported by research in neuroscience, polyvagal theory, and trauma studies. Approaches like Somatic Experiencing®, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, and body-based mindfulness have shown promising results in helping regulate the nervous system and reduce trauma symptoms.
-
Both! Working with a trained somatic therapist or practitioner can offer deep support, especially if you’re navigating trauma or emotional intensity. It can also offer insight outside of your own perspective. But you can also practice somatic self-healing on your own through grounding techniques, breathwork, gentle movement, and mindful body awareness. There is a great deal to explore separately from private sessions.
-
If you feel disconnected from your body, stuck in your healing journey, or like talk therapy isn’t reaching certain layers, somatic healing may offer a different path. It’s especially powerful for those who are ready to slow down, listen inward, and heal at the pace of the body.
